Visual thinking that stays on your device.
MapMedium is a static, local-first whiteboard, diagramming, and presentation application. The editor runs in the browser, stores working documents in browser storage, and exports files directly on the user’s device.
What is included
MapMedium combines an SVG canvas with pages, layers, snapping, connectors, freehand ink, shapes, templates, browser autosave, presentation mode, and local file import/export.
| Area | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Whiteboarding | Open canvas, sticky notes, freehand drawing, rough styling, frames, images, and text. |
| Diagramming | Grid and snapping, shape libraries, orthogonal connectors, alignment, distribution, layers, and multiple pages. |
| Presenting | 16:9 pages, browser presentation mode, and self-contained HTML export. |
| Portability | Editable MapMedium JSON, basic draw.io XML, SVG, PNG, HTML, and browser print/PDF. |
Architecture
The production build is ordinary static HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG, and PNG files. It needs a static web host but does not need an application server, database server, account system, serverless function, or MapMedium API.
This downloadable edition is an original MapMedium implementation and does not bundle the diagrams.net/draw.io source tree. Basic draw.io XML interoperability is implemented for common shapes and connectors; complex vendor-specific files may not import perfectly.
Open-source licence
